Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora\u2019s dealings with the ruling ZANU PF party to undermine MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa date as far back as 2018, before the elections, leaked WhatsApp messages have revealed.<\/p>\n

In the leaked messages, Mwonzora was begging for sponsorship from exiled former cabinet minister and G40 kingpin Jonathan Moyo to fight Chamisa.<\/p>\n

Moyo also claimed that Mwonzora had been meeting ZANU PF bigwigs when he was still MDC Alliance secretary-general, scheming to destroy the main opposition party even before the 2018 elections.<\/p>\n

Mwonzora was elected MDC-T president on 27 December 2020 and since then, he has reached out to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, saying he subscribed to politics of dialogue.<\/p>\n

He has accused Chamisa of working with G40, a ZANU PF faction comprising of former ministers Saviour Kasukuwere, Moyo, Walter Mzembi, among others.<\/p>\n

However, Mwonzora had been chatting with Moyo since February 2018 where he inquired whether the late former President Robert Mugabe was indeed behind Chamisa and the most revealing were the chats of April 12, 2018. He wrote to Moyo:<\/p>\n

I really want to fight this guy (Chamisa). I want to field my team for Parliament and local government. Further, I want to prepare for the 2019 congress. Can you help me find a sponsor? I will definitely win. I have the majority.<\/p>\n

Mwonzora\u2019s spokesperson Lloyd Damba yesterday described the alleged chats as fake.<\/p>\n

However, MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo said the chats confirm what has been happening since Mwonzora joined the MDC six years after the party\u2019s formation. Said Hlatywayo:<\/p>\n
