Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and Highlanders Football Club have expressed sadness over the death of former Warriors player and captain Misheck Chidzambwa.<\/p>\n

Chidzambwa passed away on Thursday night at the age of 66. The former Dynamos defender had been unwell since last year. ZIFA said in a statement:<\/p>\n

Our sincere condolences to the Chidzambwa family and the local football family at large following the passing of legendary Warriors player and coach Misheck Chidzambwa.<\/p>\n

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased.<\/p>\n

May his soul rest in peace.<\/p>\n

Bulawayo-based football giants Highlanders learnt with shock the death of Chidzambwa. The club said in a statement:<\/p>\n

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chidzambwa family and the entire Zimbabwean football fraternity following the shocking passing on of the Warriors former captain and legend Misheck Chidzambwa. May His Dear Soul Rest In Peace!<\/p>\n

According to The Herald, Chidzambwa becomes the third Zimbabwean football legend to die within a month.<\/p>\n

Another DeMbare and Warriors great, David \u201cYogi\u201d Mandigora, and the iconic former Dynamos and Warriors coach, Mick Poole both passed away this month.<\/p>\n

Chidzambwa and his elder brother, Sunday, who has now retired from active football coaching, were legends of domestic football.<\/p>\n

The late Misheck made history by becoming the first captain to lift silverware with the Warriors when Zimbabwe won the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup at Rufaro in 1985 under the tutelage of Poole.<\/p>\n

Poole sadly passed away in the United Kingdom last week, at the age of 85 years.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe\u2019s second silverware came in 2000 when Chidzambwa led the Warriors to their first COSAFA Cup success.<\/p>\n

Chidzambwa\u2019s former club Dynamos, with whom he won seven league titles, expressed sorrow over his passing away. The club said in a statement:<\/p>\n

We are saddened by the passing away of a great player and coach Misheck Chidzambwa. Chidzambwa won seven titles with us, was the first Warriors captain to win silverware and the first Warriors coach to win COSAFA Cup.<\/p>\n
