Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The ruling ZANU PF has ordered the demolition of houses in Goromonzi to stop amid public outcry over the development that left hundreds homeless.<\/p>\n

ZANU PF held a meeting this Monday following the demolition of houses by Goromonzi Rural District Council over the weekend. Addressing the meeting, ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpou said:<\/p>\n

_The Party has summoned the two ministers responsible for the housing issues in the country who are Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Cde July Moyo and Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Cde Daniel Garwe._<\/b><\/p>\n

_We would like to put it on record that Minister Garwe came and Minister Moyo were spoken to over the phone and agreed to make resolutions._<\/b><\/p>\n

When the party\u2019s director of Information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi called for questions from the media, one journalist sought to understand what \u201cwill happen to those with houses which have been demolished.\u201d Mpofu responded saying:<\/p>\n

_Right now we have agreed that the demolitions must stop and in the meeting, we are set to hold, will discuss that._<\/b><\/p>\n

Another reporter asked:<\/p>\n

_Is your position the same as that of Government?_<\/b><\/p>\n

Mpofu who is a former Minister of Mines and Mining Development responded:<\/p>\n

_Government is ZANU PF and we are talking about things happening in our Government._<\/b><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some analysts including MDC Alliance activist Pedzisayi Ruhanya said the move was a government \u201cpolicy retreat but the damages and losses are immeasurable from the cruel exercise across Zimbabwe.\u201d<\/p>\n

This comes amid blameshifting between the opposition and ZANU PF with each side denying responsibility.<\/p>\n

ZANU PF blames MDC saying the most local authority governments are controlled by the opposition party.<\/p>\n

MDC on the other hand claims the ruling ZANU PF owns housing cooperatives that will be allocating land.<\/p>\n

Former ZANU PF top official, Walter Mzembi this Monday argued that the demolitions were reflecting territorial wars within the ruling party.<\/p>\n
