{"id":43808,"date":"2021-07-20T16:53:18","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=43808"},"modified":"2021-07-20T16:35:26","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:35:26","slug":"auditor-general-chiri-threatened-by-corrupt-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/auditor-general-chiri-threatened-by-corrupt-companies","title":{"rendered":"Auditor-General Chiri Threatened By \u201cCorrupt\u201d Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Auditor-General, Mildred Chiri, has said her office has been threatened by some companies reported as corrupt in her previous audit reports.<\/p>\n<p>Chiri added that as a result of the threats, her office resorted to not naming the companies involved in underhand dealings in order in the recently released 2019 report to avoid lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>Giving oral evidence to the Public Accounts Parliamentary Portfolio committee on Monday, Chiri said:<\/p>\n<p>Chiri promised to satisfy all stakeholders in future as her office was now in the process of finding ways to deal with such matters.<\/p>\n<p>Her remarks confirm reports in the public domain that she had been \u201carm-twisted\u201d by companies and or political elites involved in underhand dealings not to state their names.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the 2019 report, law lecturer, Alex Magaisa, said the \u201creport appears to have been edited so that where it used to identify a company by its name, now it simply refers to \u201ca local company\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Chiri has been naming corrupt companies although little to nothing was being done following the report.<\/p>\n<p>Observers say naming the companies is essential for transparency and accountability, both key constitutional values and principles.<\/p>\n<p><b>More: Pindula News; NewZimbabwe<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
