Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The state-owned Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) has moved to evict at least twelve (12) families from its Nyarungu Training Centre, which is located in Stoneridge, Harare South constituency.<\/p>\n

Arda is specifically targeting the purported ring leaders, Anderson Mutenje and Rangarirayi Muzvanya, whom it says have settled at the core of the property.<\/p>\n

ARDA has since approached the High Court seeking the eviction of the families, arguing it has tried to engage the families who, however, disregarded the agency\u2019s petitions.<\/p>\n

Concerned families are said to have already erected houses which means ARDA will have to demolish those houses if it wins the court case. Reads the court application now before the High Court:<\/p>\n

The defendant is in unlawful occupation of the plaintiff\u2019s property. The defendant has erected illegal structures on the plaintiff\u2019s property. Defendant has no legal basis for such occupation and the construction of structures, thus entitling the plaintiff to vindicate its property.<\/p>\n

ARDA is also claiming costs on the higher scale of attorney and client on the basis that the families have caused the agency to incur expenses in the recovery of its property. Reads the draft order:<\/p>\n

The plaintiff\u2019s claim against the defendant is for an order compelling defendant and all those claiming occupation through them to demolish and remove any structures that they have constructed on plaintiff\u2019s property. In the event that defendant fails to vacate and or remove structures within the time period given in the order, the Sheriff of Zimbabwe of his lawful deputy be and is hereby authorised to evict them from Nyarungu Training Centre Stoneridge, and to demolish any structures erected thereon.<\/p>\n

The matter is yet to be heard.<\/p>\n

Demolition of structures is a common infamous phenomenon that has left dozens of families homeless across the country.<\/p>\n

Some of the stated reasons for razing down structures include acquiring land illegally and or building structures on undesignated sites.<\/p>\n
