Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga has been accused of double standards after seeking medical treatment from outside Zimbabwe while barring other government officials for doing the same.<\/p>\n

Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care chairperson Ruth Labode said there was no need for Vice President Chiwenga to ban government officials from seeking medical attention outside the country. She said:<\/p>\n

The fact that the vice president is seeking medical treatment outside the country is double standards. It is double standards, the minister in the first place should not have discouraged anybody seeking health tourism, because everywhere in the world there is health tourism.<\/p>\n

The British people go to Thailand for certain treatments, they go to India. You find that in Africa people are going to all sorts of places, people move to South Africa some to Zambia or Ethiopia for treatment. There was no need for the minister to discourage those who can afford going for health tourism.<\/p>\n

In September last year, Chiwenga said the government was no longer going to fund state officials seeking medication outside the country.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the former military boss has been frequenting China for treatment.<\/p>\n

The local health sector is being rehabilitated following decades of collapse attributed to negligence and looting of national resources by political elites.<\/p>\n
