Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Teachers\u2019 Association (ZIMTA) says it is appalled by Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary Tumisang Thabela\u2019s lack of compassion after she said teachers should borrow money for bus fare to travel to their workplaces.<\/p>\n

At a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Thabela asked the broke teachers to borrow money so that they could travel to their workplaces, comments that have angered ZIMTA.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, ZIMTA president Richard Gundane accused Thabela of misrepresenting the facts to the legislature, Cabinet, and nation at large and should withdraw her comments forthwith. Said Gundane:<\/p>\n

The lack of concern and careless attitude displayed by the secretary of a very large ministry such as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe leaves a lot to be desired.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clearer now than before that, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education does not hold teachers in high regard, neither do they care about their welfare. This is more than sad.<\/p>\n

It is a misrepresentation of issues and facts, and a display of arrogant attitude in the education sector in Zimbabwe, an element which is undesirable.<\/p>\n

\u2026 Teachers are not only feeling disrespected, but honestly, they are ashamed to get this kind of representation at a Cabinet or Parliamentary briefing level.<\/p>\n

Gundane stated that Thabela had let down the country\u2019s 140 000 teachers. He reminded Thabela that \u201cteachers can\u2019t borrow to sustain the system, the system must support the teachers to educate the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
