Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The World Bank Group has decided to discontinue the \u201cDoing Business\u201d reports that were widely used to assess the investment climate in countries.<\/p>\n

This follows data irregularities found in the 2018 and 2020 reports. Yesterday the World Bank issued the following statement on\u202fthe Doing Business report:<\/p>\n

Trust in the research of the World Bank Group is vital. World Bank Group\u202fresearch informs the actions of policymakers,\u202fhelps countries\u202fmake better-informed decisions,\u202fand\u202fallows stakeholders to measure economic and social\u202fimprovements more accurately.<\/b><\/p>\n

Such\u202fresearch has also been a\u202fvaluable tool\u202ffor\u202fthe private sector,\u202fcivil society, academia,\u202fjournalists, and others, broadening understanding of global issues.<\/b><\/p>\n

After\u202fdata irregularities on Doing Business 2018 and 2020 were reported\u202finternally in June 2020, World Bank management\u202fpaused\u202fthe next Doing Business report and\u202finitiated\u202fa series of\u202freviews\u202fand\u202faudits\u202fof the report and its methodology.<\/b><\/p>\n

In addition, because the internal reports raised ethical matters, including the conduct of former Board officials as well as current and\/or former Bank staff, management reported the allegations to the Bank\u2019s appropriate internal accountability mechanisms.<\/b><\/p>\n

After reviewing all the information available to date on Doing Business, including the findings of\u202fpast reviews, audits, and the report the Bank released today on behalf of the Board of Executive Directors, World Bank Group\u202fmanagement\u202fhas taken the decision to\u202fdiscontinue the\u202fDoing Business report.<\/b><\/p>\n

The World Bank Group remains firmly committed to advancing the role of the private sector in development and providing support to governments to design the regulatory environment that supports this.<\/b><\/p>\n

Going forward, we will be working on a new approach to assessing the business and investment climate.<\/b><\/p>\n
