Africa-Press<\/a> – Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Parents with children enrolled at Maranatha Junior School in Harare are at loggerheads with school management over the payment of fees for the second term \u201cthat never was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Schools were scheduled to reopen for the second term on 28 June but the government ordered them to remain closed following a surge of COVID-19 cases.<\/p>\n

Some schools decided to conduct online lessons during the lockdown period and expected parents to pay for the services.<\/p>\n

Maranatha Junior School wrote letters to parents demanding that they pay \u201coutstanding\u201d fees for the \u201csecond\u201d term. The school said:<\/p>\n

Only paid-up students and with admission cards shall be allowed in class from Tuesday 13 September 2021.<\/p>\n

You are free to bring proof of payment for reconciliation purposes to the accounts office if ever you have serviced your fees.<\/p>\n

Some parents said their children were not registered for the online classes while others believe there was no need to pay full fees for a term that never was.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said schools should not demand fees payment for the \u201csecond\u201d term. Said Ndoro:<\/p>\n

Fees are only due for the first term and this second and final term this year.<\/p>\n

When contacted by The Standard on Saturday, a woman who answered the phone at the school said she could not divulge such information over the telephone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
