{"id":48117,"date":"2021-10-12T19:52:43","date_gmt":"2021-10-12T17:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=48117"},"modified":"2021-10-12T19:00:03","modified_gmt":"2021-10-12T17:00:03","slug":"covid-19-the-situation-remains-bad-in-schools-ptuz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/covid-19-the-situation-remains-bad-in-schools-ptuz","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: The Situation Remains Bad In Schools \u2013 PTUZ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Monday said the COVID-19 situation remained bad in schools and accused the government of failing to deal with the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, several boarding schools in the Mberengwa district in the Midlands province were hit by COVID-19 infections, sending students and parents into a panic mode.<\/p>\n<p>PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said some of the affected schools included Masase, Mnene, Chegato and Msume. Zhou added:<\/p>\n<p>The situation remains bad. Several schools are getting infections in Midlands and the ministry (Primary and Secondary Education) has adopted a sinister motive of ordering COVID-19 positive students to stay at home for two weeks rather than quarantining them.<\/p>\n<p>He accused the Primary and Secondary Education ministry of failing to meet with teachers since the opening of schools to discuss their preparedness to deal with COVID-19 at learning institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Zhou said the affected schools in the province did not have adequate test kits to test \u201cmany pupils that are showing clear signs of COVID-19 in order to keep the figures low in schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Midlands Provincial statistician on COVID-19 statistics, Reginald Mhene, however, dismissed claims by Zhou that the province had inadequate testing kits. Said Mhene:<\/p>\n<p>The situation is under control, test kits are adequate and pupils from day schools who are positive and stable are isolating at home after home assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Mhene did not indicate the number of students that have tested positive for COVID-19 in the province to date.<\/p>\n<p>More: NewsDay<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
