Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Mighty Warriors edged closer to qualifying for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) finals after inflicting yet another heavy defeat on Eswatini.<\/p>\n

They crushed their opponents 3-0, in their backyard, in the second leg of their qualifier, at Mavuso Sports Centre, in Manzini.<\/p>\n

The result means the Mighty Warriors won the two-legged AWCON qualification tie 6-1 after having claimed a 3-1 win at the National Sports Stadium in Harare last week.<\/p>\n

Veteran midfielder Marjory Nyaumwe opened the scoring in the first half, just as she did in last week\u2019s reverse fixture.<\/p>\n

Maudy Mafuruse doubled the Mighty Warriors\u2019 lead after the break before Shyline Dambamuromo\u2019s goal later in the game put the game beyond their opponents.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe is expected to meet neighbours Botswana in the next round, and should they win their two-legged second round tie, they will qualify for the AWCON which will be played in Morocco next year.<\/p>\n

The AWCON is scheduled to take place in July and August 2022 after being previously cancelled because of the Coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n

Next year\u2019s tournament will also serve as the African qualifier for the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n

The top four teams from the tournament in Morocco will qualify for the global showpiece.<\/p>\n

Two more African teams will have a chance to qualify for the World Cup if they win the inter-confederation play-offs.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors remain the most successful national football team in the country.<\/p>\n

They are the only ones to feature at the Olympics, after they joined South Africa in Brazil in 2016, as the only two African representatives.<\/p>\n
