{"id":49011,"date":"2021-10-28T18:35:44","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T16:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=49011"},"modified":"2021-10-28T17:57:52","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T15:57:52","slug":"nurses-want-living-wage-not-patriotism-training-dongo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/nurses-want-living-wage-not-patriotism-training-dongo","title":{"rendered":"Nurses Want Living Wage, Not Patriotism Training \u2013 Dongo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president Enock Dongo on Wednesday said nurses have rejected proposals to undergo training in patriotism and instead, want a living wage that will naturally engender a sense of patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa told a Tuesday post-Cabinet media briefing that the Government had approved a proposal to introduce the National Health Service (NHS) training and induction modules for health workers, which will include lessons in patriotism.<\/p>\n<p>Dongo stated that nurses are in the dark regarding the Government\u2019s plans as they have not been consulted. He said:<\/p>\n<p>We believe that anything done without the involvement of a worker is a non-starter. It will not work.<\/p>\n<p>All the workers that I am talking to, including myself, are not aware, and it will not see the light of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Without consultations, it is bound to fail. It\u2019s a waste of time. Right now, we don\u2019t even know what that is all about. I don\u2019t think the government has to do all that.<\/p>\n<p>It just needs to give health workers a living wage and by doing so, it will achieve patriotism and hard work which is beyond the call of duty.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who doubles as Health and Child Care minister decreed that doctors must be recruited as military officers for them to work in public hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s constitution does not allow members of the security forces to engage in collective bargaining or to join unions.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the Government announced plans to ban doctors and nurses from going on strike for more than three days under proposed amendments to the Health Services Act.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed changes, those accused of \u201cinciting\u201d doctors and nurses to strike could be jailed for up to three years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
