Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Six MDC Alliance activists were arrested over the weekend for calling members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s dogs.<\/p>\n

The six MDC Alliance members are Nobody Makoni (51), Batsirai Sora (33), Kudzai Sachiwo (27), Jacob Chigodora (32), Chipo Mungoshi (34) and Memory Chikodze (35).<\/p>\n

They were hauled before Harare magistrate Zvidzayi Mateko on Tuesday facing charges of insulting police officers and were released on $5 000 bail each.<\/p>\n

The matter was postponed to 14 December 2021 for trial.<\/p>\n

The accused, who were represented by Noble Chinhanu of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, denied the charge.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors alleged that the six MDC Alliance members insulted police officers saying they (police officers) are being used and will die poor. The charge sheet read in part:<\/p>\n

Mapurisa imi murimbwa dzaMnangagwa. Munongoshandiswa muchafa muchitambura<\/b><\/p>\n

(you police officers are Mnangagwa\u2019s dogs. You are being used, you will die poor).<\/p>\n

The alleged incident happened on Sunday in Epworth, where opposition activists had gathered for a meeting.<\/p>\n

Makoni, who is the oldest among the six suspects, is alleged to have been the first to utter the insulting words and the other accused persons \u201cechoed the same words repeatedly towards the complainant (Tambudzai Dzumbunu, a police officer) and her colleagues\u201d, the State outline read.<\/p>\n

The complainant felt insulted by the accused persons\u2019 utterances and filed a report at the ZRP Epworth.<\/p>\n
