{"id":50510,"date":"2021-11-28T18:26:56","date_gmt":"2021-11-28T16:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/?p=50510"},"modified":"2021-11-28T17:09:06","modified_gmt":"2021-11-28T15:09:06","slug":"chinese-firm-yet-to-start-airport-project-7-months-after-signing-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/chinese-firm-yet-to-start-airport-project-7-months-after-signing-contract","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Firm Yet To Start Airport Project 7 Months After Signing Contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The multi-million-dollar project to fix Zimbabwe\u2019s Air Traffic Control Communication Systems (ATCCS) by a Chinese company is yet to commence, seven months after the contract was signed.<\/p>\n<p>China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) signed a contract that will see the former supplying and installing air traffic control communication systems and accessories that would cost close to US$5 million.<\/p>\n<p>The contract, awarded by CAAZ in 2020 through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, but the project is yet to commence.<\/p>\n<p>While CHEC has a tainted history of non-delivery, blacklists and bribery reports in some countries, a senior government official has blamed the delay on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)\u2019s failure to release the money required to fund the project.<\/p>\n<p>Transport ministry permanent secretary Thedius Chinyanga told the Standard that the project was within the agreed time frame.<\/p>\n<p>Chinyanga exonerated CHEC from blame saying the company did not \u201ccontract itself,\u201d but was waiting for its Zimbabwean partners to fulfil their end of the bargain.<\/p>\n<p>Chinyanga said the project was initially billed to commence in 2022, but expressed measured concern that the RBZ delay would negatively affect the project.<\/p>\n<p>He added that CHEC had commenced the manufacture of equipment needed for the ATCCS even though it had not been paid.<\/p>\n<p>More: The Standard<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
