Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Eleven candidates have been shortlisted to attend public interviews to fill two vacancies that have arisen in the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC).<\/p>\n

The ZHRC is one of the independent constitutional bodies set up in terms of the Constitution and receives funding directly from the Treasury.<\/p>\n

Among the shortlisted candidates are the Employers Association for the Tourism and Safari Operators (EATSO) national president Clement Mukwasi.<\/p>\n

Lupane State University (LSU) lecturer Canaan Mpala, University of Zimbabwe law lecturer, Sharon Hofisi, co-founder of His Presence Ministries International, Petunia Chiriseri, Blessing Dirani and Jesmine Howera are some of the names on the shortlist.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Clerk of Parliament, Kennedy Chokuda said the nominations were opened on 21 September and ran until 1 October 2021.<\/p>\n

He said the interviews would be carried out in terms of the Constitution.<\/p>\n

Candidates who are unvaccinated are required to bring a negative COVID-19 certificate issued within 48 hours before the interviews. Said Chokuda:<\/p>\n

Parliament of Zimbabwe received 16 nominations, 10 males and 6 females, by the closing date.<\/p>\n

The Committee on Standing Rules and Orders met on Thursday, 18th November 2021 to consider the suitability of the nominees to serve on this Commission.<\/p>\n
