Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has finally released the broadcast equipment they seized from prominent journalist Hopewell Chin\u2019ono\u2019s Harare home in 2020.<\/p>\n

Police arrested Chin\u2019ono in July 2020 on charges of incitement to commit public violence through posting tweets denouncing alleged looting and corruption by well-connected political elites and their cronies.<\/p>\n

Chin\u2019ono confirmed via his Facebook page that the CID Law and Order department released his equipment on Tuesday afternoon. He wrote:<\/p>\n

The regime has finally released my Panasonic P2 broadcast camera, Avid video edit suite, Laptop and cell phones.<\/p>\n

The equipment was seized on 20 July 2020 after I was arrested and jailed for exposing State corruption and the looting of public funds!<\/p>\n

I got the equipment 30 minutes ago from the CID Law and Order department!<\/p>\n

Chin\u2019ono, through his lawyers Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners wrote several times to the ZRP, asking for his equipment to be released.<\/p>\n

The lawyers wrote to the police on 1 October 2020 and 16 December 2020 requesting the release of Chin\u2019ono\u2019s equipment.<\/p>\n

After High Court Judge Justice Siyabona Musithu acquitted Chin\u2019ono on charges of incitement to commit public violence, the lawyers wrote to the police yet again.<\/p>\n

The letter, dated 8 December 2021, was addressed to Detective Chief Inspector Morga Chafa, the Officer in Charge Law & Order Section, ZRP, Harare Central.<\/p>\n
