Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>There have been varying responses to the use of the raised index finger as the Citizens\u2019 Coalition for Change (CCC) party as its symbol with some saying it is a symbol used by ISIS, a terrorist organisation operating mainly in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

The opposition MDC Alliance morphed into the CCC on the 22nd of January following claims by Douglas Mwonzora, the leader of opposition MDC-T that he is the leader of the MDC brand and all its variants.<\/p>\n

The Herald quotes Political commentator, Alex Manyonga, as saying the adoption of the raised index finger as the CCC\u2019s symbol is a cause for concern. The Herald reports:<\/p>\n

Beyond the re-branding of Chamisa\u2019s party into CCC lies the Islamic extremist symbol of pointing the index finger to the sky. Whereas this sounds like nothing, there is a need to give a telescopic look at it. Pointing a finger to the sky is well known as an Islamic extremist symbol. As such the adoption of such an extremist symbol needs not to go unchecked especially in the wake of a marauding monster in the face of Ansar Al Sunna Militants in Mozambique.<\/p>\n

Another Political analyst, Rashweat Mukundu, said a raised index finger has many meanings besides being used by ISIS. Pindula News presents Mukundu\u2019s remarks:<\/p>\n

This is a sign of power and victory around the world. Its use by ISIS which meant the singularity of Allah in Islam and rejection of any other religion has nothing to do with the global use of this sign.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, renowned journalist, Hopewell Chin\u2019ono who is a staunch critic of the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led government said the reportage by The Herald suggests that state-run papers are shameful.<\/p>\n

He said the article is a typical example of how the public media in Zimbabwe is used by \u201cZANU PF to generate childish and stupid hateful narratives in Zimbabwe!\u201d<\/p>\n
