Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa Tuesday was in Matabeleland where she officiated an event to offer open learning to women and girls in Matabeleland North Province.<\/p>\n

The initiative is a partnership between the First Lady\u2019s Angel of Hope Foundation and the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) which will offer various courses for free.<\/p>\n

Matabeleland North becomes the country\u2019s first rural province to benefit from the partnership which has been launched in Harare and Bulawayo.<\/p>\n

ZOU lecturers including professors and PhD holders who were accompanying the First Lady unpacked the courses for the people.<\/p>\n

They brought course outlines, which one would be given immediately after registering for a course.<\/p>\n

Under the programme, beneficiaries are permitted to take up as many courses as they can handle.<\/p>\n

Courses on offer include Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Law, Basic Computer Literacy, Basic Sign Language and Disability awareness, cultural Heritage, Agriculture, Early Child Development and Nurse Aid-Palliative Care for Elderly.<\/p>\n

In her address, the First Lady emphasised the importance of educating women whom she said will have an impact in their families, communities and nation at large.<\/p>\n

ZOU Pro-vice chancellor of academic studies and learning activities, Professor Ermson Nyakatawa implored the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously to reap maximum benefits in future.<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude that the First Lady\u2019s initiative had given her a chance to resume studies after that were disrupted by many issues including lack of financial resources.<\/p>\n

Some said they prematurely terminated studies as the patriarchal society did not value the education of the girl child.<\/p>\n
