Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Strive Masiyiwa, the billionaire founder of Econet Wireless, has stepped down from the telecommunications giant\u2019s board of directors effective February 1.<\/p>\n

He has been on the board since the inception of the company in 1998.<\/p>\n

In a statement released Friday, Econet Wireless\u2019 board and management expressed gratitude to Masiyiwa whose leadership they credited for the company\u2019s growth. Reads the statement signed by group company secretary Charles Banda:<\/p>\n

It is through his leadership, dedication and perseverance that the company has grown to become one of Zimbabwe\u2019s largest and most successful businesses.<\/p>\n

The Board and management takes this opportunity to express their appreciation to Mr. Masiyiwa for his entrepreneurial leadership and his unwavering commitment to the company and his philanthropy that has changed the lives of so many in Zimbabwe and across Africa.<\/p>\n

Masiyiwa\u2019s company is into telecommunications, banking and other businesses, and places him in the top 10 of Africa\u2019s richest people.<\/p>\n

The philanthropist also sits on a number of respectable boards which include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Geographic, Unilever, Netflix, has been on The Rockefeller Foundation and is the only African member of the United States Holocaust Memorial.<\/p>\n

He is also the chairman emeritus of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa and African Union Special Envoy to the continent\u2019s response to Covid-19.<\/p>\n
