Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Workers at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) have backtracked on their strike notification issued two days ago, and on Friday, they said they will continue working.<\/p>\n

This comes after the institution\u2019s management and workers\u2019 representatives met on Thursday to negotiate on a pay rise.<\/p>\n

GZU Workers Union president, Givewell Munyaradzi told New zimbabwe that they have decided to give dialogue a chance. Said Munyaradzi:<\/p>\n

We will pave way for further engagement otherwise, l foresees an industrial action if they are not serious. Remember, this was only an Incapacitation letter.<\/p>\n

The employees have since been notified of the new development through a letter dated 25 February. Part of the letter reads:<\/p>\n

This serves to notify our constituency that, pursuant to the management meeting held with staff representatives held at Hebert Chitepo Law School held on 24 February 2022, it was resolved that the earlier communicated position on incapacitation be called off to pave way for negotiations on the concerns raised.<\/p>\n

There have been growing calls of salary increment by workers in the public sector, with teachers and health care workers declaring incapacitation in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

Rising inflation and a weakening Zimbabwean dollar have pushed the majority of Zimbabwean workers into poverty.<\/p>\n
