Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Police on Sunday said that they had arrested 16 people in connection with the murder of one person at an opposition political rally in Kwekwe.<\/p>\n

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) said that a supporter was killed while 17 others were injured and taken to the hospital following an attack by suspected ZANU PF activists who were armed with stones, spears and machetes.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre while CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing a campaign rally.<\/p>\n

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they are carrying out investigations and will release more details. Said Nyathi:<\/p>\n

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the violent incident which occurred in Kwekwe this afternoon in which one person died.<\/p>\n

The ZRP also confirms that 16 suspects have been picked up in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n

Police investigations are now in progress and more details will be released soon.<\/p>\n

The ZRP urges citizens to be peaceful and shun violence at all times.<\/p>\n

This incident comes a day after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said it\u2019s a matter of time before ZANU PF crushes the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) \u201clike lice\u201d to prevent the opposition party from winning elections and attaining control of the State.<\/p>\n

Chiwenga made the remarks while addressing ZANU PF supporters at a campaign rally in Kwekwe at Mbizo Stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n
