Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Seasonal farmworkers from Lesotho and Zimbabwe in Nkqubela Township, Western Cape, clashed over jobs on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Officers from the Public Order Police (POP) were despatched to Robertson at the Cape Winelands following the clashes and are monitoring the situation.<\/p>\n

A number of people sustained moderate injuries after the two groups clashed before the police arrived.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa refuted reports that several people and children had been hacked during the clashes. Said Poletwa:<\/p>\n

Social media reports indicating that individuals died and children were hacked as a result of the clashes in Robertson are refuted as fake news aimed at causing unnecessary panic.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, mediation efforts continue between the warring parties with the local SAPS, the municipality, the farming community and the department of labour playing a leading role.<\/p>\n

Potelwa said a group of people sought refuge outside the Robertson Police Station in fear of possible attacks on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

She however did not disclose the nationality of the people who sought shelter at the police station.<\/p>\n
