Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Chivhu Centre now has a Town Board which will operate independently of Chikomba Rural District Council (RDC).<\/p>\n

The Chivhu Town Board will have its creditors and debtors separated from Chikomba RDC.<\/p>\n

The development was revealed in a letter to the local authority from the Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo.<\/p>\n

The letter states that the Chivhu Town Board will be responsible for managing and leading developments in Chivhu Centre. Part of the letter reads:<\/p>\n

In terms of section 57 of the Rural District Council Act (Chapter 29:13), I hereby appoint Chivhu Centre as a Town Board.<\/p>\n

The Town Board will be responsible for managing and leading development in Chivhu Centre.<\/p>\n

Moyo appointed the team that will do the assessments to assist the local authority to operationalise the Town Board Committee. The team was given 10 days to complete the task.<\/p>\n

The team will assist in the distribution of assets between the RDC and the Town Board.<\/p>\n

It will also allocate staff and come up with modalities for sharing of costs that are cross-cutting, separate creditors and debtors and ascertain the boundary of the Town Board, among other things.<\/p>\n

There will also be a nomination process for members to compose the Town Board Committee other than elected councillors.<\/p>\n

Chikomba RDC chairman Israel Dhikinya welcome the granting of town status to Chivhu, saying it signals the growth of Chivhu.<\/p>\n

Chikomba residents and Ratepayers Alliance Chairman told The Mirror that he is happy with the development.<\/p>\n
