{"id":56593,"date":"2022-03-28T18:47:43","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T16:47:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/by-elections-update-welshman-ncubes-preferred-candidate-wins-bulawayo-ward-26-seat"},"modified":"2022-03-28T21:01:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T19:01:08","slug":"by-elections-update-welshman-ncubes-preferred-candidate-wins-bulawayo-ward-26-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/by-elections-update-welshman-ncubes-preferred-candidate-wins-bulawayo-ward-26-seat","title":{"rendered":"By-elections Update: Welshman Ncube\u2019s Preferred Candidate Wins Bulawayo Ward 26 Seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The just-ended by-elections held across the country to fill 28 National Assembly and 121 local government seats saw some members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates vying for the same post in some constituencies or wards.<\/p>\n<p>In Bulawayo Ward 26, Norman Hlabani, lost Saturday\u2019s by-elections to his rival Mpumelelo Moyo.<\/p>\n<p>CCC fielded double candidates in the ward, which covers Emganwini after both contestants had their candidature cleared by the party\u2019s senior leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The party\u2019s vice president Welshman Ncube reportedly signed for Moyo\u2018s nomination papers while Hlabani \u2018s papers were reportedly signed by the party\u2019s deputy national chairman Job Sikhala.<\/p>\n<p>Hlabani was the incumbent councillor before he was recalled.<\/p>\n<p>In the by-elections, Hlabani polled came third after he polled 261 votes. LUNGISANI SIBANDA- Zanu PF \u2013 418<\/p>\n<p>Before the results, Hlabani had expressed confidence of retaining the ward.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some of the voters expressed relief following Hlabani\u2019s defeat saying he was one of the representatives \u201cShortchanging us all over Bulawayo.
