Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The country\u2019s major hospitals have been operating with acting CEOs for nearly two years despite the health services board (HSB) conducting interviews.<\/p>\n

In 2020, the Ministry of Health and Child Care retired five CEOs at Zimbabwe\u2019s major public hospitals.<\/p>\n

The Ministry said it was reforming how hospital CEOs are appointed, with a new requirement that they should be senior medical doctors.<\/p>\n

HSB conducted interviews in June 2020 to replace them but two years later, the hospitals are still being led by acting CEOs.<\/p>\n

A senior doctor told ZimLive that the Government\u2019s failure to appoint substantive CEOs hinders long-term planning at the institutions. Said the doctor:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the way to run public hospitals, especially during a time of multiple crises when the hospital leadership must have the flexibility and authority to make tough decisions in the interests of public health.<\/p>\n

Dr Michael Chiwanga is acting CEO at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, Dr Christopher Pasi is in temporary charge at Sally Mugabe Hospital, while Dr Narcisious Dzvanga is the acting CEO of the United Bulawayo Hospitals.<\/p>\n

Prof Solwayo Ngwenya is in caretaker charge at Mpilo Central Hospital, Dr Nemache Mawere is holding station at Ingutsheni Central Hospital and Dr Aspect Maunganidze is acting CEO at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.<\/p>\n
