Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry has pleaded with Zimbabweans to trust her as she works on finding a lasting solution to the problems bedevilling football in the country.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe is currently under a FIFA ban after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board led by Felton Kamambo.<\/p>\n

Addressing the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture, recently, Coventry said:<\/p>\n

You need to understand that there\u2019s a lot happening in the background.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I can\u2019t be forthcoming with everything that is happening in the background, my plea is that you should trust me, I\u2019m asking for your trust.<\/p>\n

They are things that are happening, I want to promise the committee that, at the end of the day, I\u2019m not interested in politics, the flexing of muscles, people are there to do their jobs.<\/p>\n

My biggest goal is to protect the interest of athletes because I was also an athlete and I understand what they\u2019re going through and it\u2019s not okay.<\/p>\n

And, I don\u2019t want my athletes to miss out on any games because they will miss opportunities on the table.<\/p>\n

So, I want to tell you that I\u2019m doing everything in my power to make sure that there is, as the Honourable Member said, a chance of us coming together to a mutual agreement on a win-win situation.<\/p>\n
