The European Union (EU) has provided \u20ac500 000 to assist thousands of families affected by Cyclone Idai in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the EU pledged its solidarity with the affected families, saying it was making available assistance to address the humanitarian crisis that unfolded due to the cyclone which hit the country at the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe EU stands in solidarity with all those people affected by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Just hours after the cyclone\u2019s impact, we are making emergency aid available to address the pressing humanitarian needs and to boost the local response efforts,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n
The EU said \u20ac2 million would be provided to Mozambique, \u20ac1 million to Malawi and \u20ac500 000 to Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
The bloc is expected to send specialists to the affected areas and their satellite system would be activated to find out the needs of those affected.<\/p>\n
The Tanzanian government has provided 214 tonnes of food and two tonnes of medical supplies to Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi in response to the humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n
Econet Zimbabwe has so far contributed ZWR$5 million to assist cyclone victims.<\/p>\n
CBZ Bank also chipped in with ZWR$100 000, while Innscor Africa Ltd will provide ZWR$200 000 worth of food.<\/p>\n
Doves Funeral Assurance also offered caskets and burial services to the deceased.<\/p>\n
TelOne also contributed goods and medicines worth ZWRS$100 000, while NetOne pledged $50 000 towards the purchase of dry foods.<\/p>\n
Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) has also launched a crowd-sourcing platform to mobilise aid for the victims.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
