Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Disgruntled ZANU PF members have renewed calls for the removal of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as party leader at the elective congress expected in October this year.<\/p>\n

While some members of the party have endorsed Mnangagwa as the party\u2019s presidential candidate for elections next year, some party cadres are allegedly pushing for his removal.<\/p>\n

An alleged faction linked to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reportedly calling for Mnangagwa\u2019s removal from the helm of the party.<\/p>\n

Chiwenga\u2019s backers blame Mnangagwa for failing to solve the country\u2019s deteriorating economic situation characterised by rising prices of basic grocery items and services and a collapsed local currency.<\/p>\n

Members of the alleged Chiwenga faction have reportedly formed counter social media groups, where they openly express their unhappiness with Mnangagwa\u2019s perceived leadership failures.<\/p>\n

In leaked WhatsApp audio clips in possession of NewsDay, ZANU PF youths said Mnangagwa should be replaced with Chiwenga. One youth only identified as Jasi said:<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t continue with this situation. We are in ZANU PF, but we should be candid.<\/p>\n

Out there, we protect our President, but we can\u2019t continue with this situation because our parents are struggling.<\/p>\n

It is so pathetic. Mr Mnangagwa should step down or must be removed. We can\u2019t be threatened.<\/p>\n

Another group member chipped in, saying ZANU PF may lose elections to CCC led by Nelson Chamisa. He said:<\/p>\n

No Comrade Jasi. The reason why we opt for the removal of people is that these men do not want to take advice.<\/p>\n

If people overstay in power, they think they own Zimbabwe. If we are talking about important issues, we must be one. If they fail, then they must let Chiwenga take over.<\/p>\n

They do not care about us. They have got their agenda that benefits them.<\/p>\n

We will end up losing this country to (opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson) Chamisa if we continue on this track.<\/p>\n

Mnangagwa blames sanctions and \u201ceconomic saboteurs\u201d for the country\u2019s economic challenges.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa told journalists in Harare that Mnangagwa remained the ZANU PF presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n
