Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Traditional leaders will no longer have to pay transport fares when they board Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) buses in all parts of the country.<\/p>\n

This was revealed by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga while addressing mourners at the homestead of the late Chief Nhlamba in Gwanda on Friday. He said:<\/p>\n

Traditional leaders will not have to pay transport fares on ZUPCO buses starting tomorrow (today).<\/p>\n

Our chiefs are the custodians of our culture and owners of this soil.<\/p>\n

Chiwenga made the announcement in response to Headman Dubane who had said that private transport operators do not require traditional leaders to pay bus fares yet ZUPCO was demanding that they pay. He said:<\/p>\n

We\u2019re optimistic that all that we\u2019ve been promised will come. We\u2019re lucky to have the Vice-President in our midst and we can highlight our challenges such as that of Zupco demanding that traditional leaders pay transport fares.<\/p>\n

Green Horse and other private transport operators don\u2019t demand transport fares from us, unlike ZUPCO.<\/p>\n

Chief Nhlamba, born Dennis Ndlovu, died last weekend after a long illness at the age of 75.<\/p>\n

He was granted a State-assisted burial and will be laid to rest at his rural home in Garanyemba this Saturday.<\/p>\n

Chief Nhlamba was installed on 16 July 2010 and was on the throne for almost 12 years.<\/p>\n
