Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Energy Mutodi has decided to quit the Goromonzi West constituency and will not contest for the seat in 2023.<\/p>\n

Mutodi has since transferred from ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province to ZANU PF Masvingo Province.<\/p>\n

The musician and former Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister made the announcement at a rally held in Goromonzi recently.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by senior party officials from the province.<\/p>\n

ZANU PF Masvingo provincial spokesperson Tatenda Mavetera confirmed the development. Said Mavetera:<\/p>\n

In Goromonzi West, it emerged that Honourable Mutodi mentioned that he is no longer contesting to be MP in 2023.<\/p>\n

He bid farewell to his constituency a long time back but should finish his term as the elected MP for Goromonzi West.<\/p>\n

Mutodi is now a provincial member in Masvingo province but some ZANU PF members are reportedly frustrating his efforts to be admitted into the party structures.<\/p>\n

In the 2018 elections, Mutodi narrowly won in Goromonzi West against the then Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance after the opposition party fielded two candidates, Clifford Nhamburo and Luke Tamborinyoka.<\/p>\n

Tamborinyoka won more than 6 000 votes while Namburo garnered more than 10 000 votes.<\/p>\n

Their combined votes would have been enough to win the seat for the MDC Alliance.<\/p>\n
