Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>ZANU PF is engaging traditional leaders in its drive to secure 5 million votes in the 2023 elections to be assured of defeating the opposition.<\/p>\n

Section 281 (2) of the national constitution forbids traditional leaders from furthering the interests of any political party, but ZANU PF is showing scant regard for the supreme law of the land.<\/p>\n

ZANU PF co-vice president Kembo Mohadi is in Masvingo Province and is set to visit all seven districts by 14 June.<\/p>\n

The former State vice president is on a ZANU PF party mission to mobilise traditional leaders to work with District Coordinating Committees (DCCs) to garner rural votes in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, 8 June, Mohadi addressed local Chiefs and several village heads from across the Mwenezi district who were bussed to Rutenga growth point for a ZANU PF meeting. Addressing the meeting, Mohadi said:<\/p>\n

We want you, village heads, to work together with our DCC to come up with tangible ZANU PF cells.<\/p>\n

Each village head should at least come up with three cell structures and that way we are assured to attain our 5 million votes target come next elections.<\/p>\n

Mohadi further urged village heads to rally their subjects to register and vote for ZANU PF in the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

The village heads were promised bicycles and an additional US$50 monthly salary starting this coming July. Currently, they are earning ZWL$350 per month.<\/p>\n
