Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) acting president, Gift Banda, said he honours those who served at the association before him.<\/p>\n

Banda\u2019s made the remarks on Thursday after a consultative meeting with former ZIFA and COSAFA President Phillip Chiyangwa as part of his engagement with former ZIFA presidents.<\/p>\n

Chiyangwa recently facilitated a meeting between Gift Banda and the incumbent leader of the regional football bloc, Artur de Almeida, reported The Sunday Mail.<\/p>\n

Banda said Chiyangwa assured the ZIFA executive that he will assist them in reaching out to FIFA for the lifting of Zimbabwe\u2019s suspension from international football. Banda said:<\/p>\n

We come to tap [from] the knowledge and wisdom that they have. It\u2019s not like past presidents never did anything good for Zimbabwean football. They did.<\/p>\n

Our football has been in intensive care and we want to take it out of there. How do we do that?<\/p>\n

By engaging every stakeholder within the football family so that we do the right things.<\/p>\n

Hon. Dr Phillip Chiyangwa has done a lot in a short period of time since we assumed office.<\/p>\n

He is the person who opened the door for us to go and meet the COSAFA President and he is opening more channels for us to engage the leadership on the continent.<\/p>\n

We know with him next to us, we will not fail. He has assured us that he will hold our hands and walk with us as we traverse this difficult journey that we find ourselves in.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe is currently under suspension from FIFA after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in November 2021.<\/p>\n

FIFA said the suspension of Kamambo and other ZIFA board members amounted to Government interference, which is in violation of the world football governing body\u2019s statutes.<\/p>\n

In April, the ZIFA Assembly held an extraordinary general meeting and fired Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Brighton Malandule.<\/p>\n

Since then, ZIFA has been frantically trying to have the FIFA suspension lifted.<\/p>\n
