Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) treasurer-general, David Coltart, said the Zimbabwean State has turned the law into a weapon to persecute government critics.<\/p>\n

This comes after High Court judge Justice Lucy Mungwari dismissed CCC legislators, Job Sikhaka and Godfrey Sithole\u2019s bail appeals on Friday.<\/p>\n

Posting on Twitter, Coltart said he was \u201cnot surprised\u201d by the denial of bail to the two MPs.<\/p>\n

Coltart said ZANU PF members commit murders with impunity while opposition members are denied basic rights such as bail. He said:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not surprised by the denial of bail to [CCC] MPs [Job Sikhala] and Godfrey Sithole.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll say it until I am blue in the face \u2013 law is a weapon in Zimbabwe, not an instrument of justice.<\/p>\n

ZANU PF members murder with impunity; CCC members are denied basic rights and persecuted.<\/p>\n

Sikhala, who is the Zengeza West MP, has been arrested a record 67 times on politically-motivated charges without conviction.<\/p>\n

Sikhala and Sithole who is Chitungwiza North MP, had approached the High Court appealing against a magistrate\u2019s decision not to grant them bail pending trial, two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

They unsuccessfully applied for bail before the Harare magistrates\u2019 courts.<\/p>\n

The magistrate ruled that the two MPs were a threat to public security and were likely to re-offend if released on bail.<\/p>\n

Sikhala and Sithole are facing charges of incitement to commit violence in Nyatsime following the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.<\/p>\n

Ali\u2019s dismembered remains were discovered in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice, about 10km away from where she was taken.<\/p>\n

The prime suspect in her murder, Pius Mukandi, alias Jamba (31), has since been arrested and was remanded in custody.<\/p>\n
