Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Beatrice Mtetwa this Wednesday secured bail for Robson Chere the secretary-general of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ).<\/p>\n

Chere was arrested on the 5th of July 2022 in connection with the death of his friend Roy Issa who fell from the seventh floor of a Harare Hotel sometime in 2016 while drinking with friends, including Obert Masaraure who has also been arrested over the same incident.<\/p>\n

The police, back then, dismissed any foul play following investigations into his death.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) issued an update on the case:<\/p>\n

JUST IN: Our lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa just got @ARTUZ_teachers SG @robohchere set free from prison on ZWL60 000 bail granted by Justice Annie-Lucy Mungwari, who also ordered him to report @PoliceZimbabwe once every month, surrender his passport & continue residing at given address.<\/p>\n

Government critics say the arrests were \u201csilly\u201d and meant to destabilise teachers\u2019 unions who are planning protests over poor salaries and working conditions.<\/p>\n
