Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>John Bolton, who served as a national security adviser in the Donald Trump administration, said Tuesday he had previously helped plan coups in other countries.<\/p>\n

Bolton was on CNN where he rejected the notion that the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot was a \u201ccarefully planned coup\u201d by former President Trump. The Capitol Hill protest got Trump impeached as he was being accused of inciting his supporters by rejecting the election of Joe Biden.<\/p>\n

Bolton told CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper:<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the way Donald Trump does things. It\u2019s rambling from one \u2026 idea to another, one plan that falls through, and another comes up.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, he did unleash the rioters at the Capitol. As to that, there\u2019s no doubt.<\/p>\n

As somebody who has helped plan coup d\u2019\u00e9tat, not here but other places, it takes a lot of work, and that\u2019s not what he did.<\/p>\n

Although Bolton said he wouldn\u2019t go \u201cinto specifics\u201d on which countries he\u2019d assisted coups in, he noted that he\u2019d written in his book about efforts in Venezuela to end Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s regime that \u201cturned out not to be successful \u2014 not that we had all that much to do with it.\u201d Bolton, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said:<\/p>\n

But I saw what it took for an opposition to try and overturn an illegally elected president, and they failed. The notion that Donald Trump was half as competent as the Venezuelan opposition is laughable.<\/p>\n

The United States has often been accused of championing and or funding regime change agendas in many countries including Zimbabwe under the guise of pushing for observance of human rights. The superpower has always denied the allegations.<\/p>\n
