Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The 2022 national population census results have suggested that 9.2 per cent of the population has impairments of varying degrees, according to ZBC News.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) Director General, Mr Taguma Mahonde said measuring the functionality of individuals is important to ensure sufficient resource allocation towards social services. Releasing the results of functionality, Mahonde said:<\/p>\n

The latest results are significant for our policy-making and about 9.2 per cent of our population are facing problems of sight, hearing and speaking. It also includes those facing reduced cognitive abilities.<\/p>\n

It is important that Government is aware of these measurements because it is now easy to project the resources needed to cater for these people.<\/p>\n

The National population census also shows that 0.03% of the population has zero functionality. ZIMSTAT plans to use the latest results to expedite research into this phenomenon by calling for papers to improve policy formulation toward social services provision.<\/p>\n

The 2022 population and housing census started on the night of 20 April and ended on the 30th of the same month.<\/p>\n
