Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament for Harare East, Tendai Biti Thursday claimed that Parirenyatwa Hospital had run out of essentials including painkillers, bandages and syringes.<\/p>\n

He made the remarks in Parliament where he suggested that the Health and Child Care Minister, Constantino Chiwenga who is also the Vice President be summoned to explain the public health situation in the country.<\/p>\n

The former Minister of Finance and Economic Development during the Government of National Unity (GNU) also made reference to a video of South Africa\u2019s Member of the Executive of Health for the Limpopo Province, Dr Phophi Ramathuba which is trending on social media.<\/p>\n

Ramathuba was captured on camera telling a bedridden Zimbabwean patient that she had to get medical attention in Zimbabwe adding that foreigners were worsening South Africa\u2019s health crisis. Biti said:<\/p>\n

I was at Parirenyatwa hospital recently. My grandfather is not feeling well; he has prostate cancer. They are forcing you to buy bandages, syringes and even painkillers. The public health system in Zimbabwe has collapsed.<\/p>\n

It is a national crisis, there are no dialysis machines, no basic equipment in our hospitals and only yesterday in South Africa, we were treated to a video clip of the MEC, the provincial minister for Health in the Limpopo province Dr Phophi Ramathuba chiding Zimbabweans that they are being treated in South Africa, what is wrong with their health system in Zimbabwe?<\/p>\n

So we ask that the health minister be summoned to this august House to present a status of our health and how the government is going to deal with this urgent issue.<\/p>\n

Deputy speaker Tsitsi Gezi asked the government chief whip to convey the message to Chiwenga who was in Togo for a United Nations health summit for African countries.<\/p>\n

Gezi also agreed with ZANU PF MP for Bindura South Remigious Matangira\u2019s claim that the crisis in the health sector was the result of \u201csanctions imposed on the country by the West at the request of the opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n
