{"id":65470,"date":"2022-09-02T16:52:19","date_gmt":"2022-09-02T14:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/phophi-ramathuba-explains-her-comments-in-viral-videos"},"modified":"2022-09-02T19:48:06","modified_gmt":"2022-09-02T17:48:06","slug":"phophi-ramathuba-explains-her-comments-in-viral-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/phophi-ramathuba-explains-her-comments-in-viral-videos","title":{"rendered":"Phophi Ramathuba Explains Her Comments In Viral Videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba said she wanted to \u201cput the record straight\u201d after she sparked debate in both Zimbabwe and South Africa following her recent encounters with Zimbabwean patients.<\/p>\n<p>Ramathuba conceded that South Africa\u2019s leaders could have done more to stabilise the country\u2019s public healthcare system.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking virtually with Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin\u2019ono on Thursday night, Ramathuba said SA leaders can do more to prevent hospitals from becoming overburdened.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after videos of her admonishing Zimbabwean patients being treated at Limpopo health facilities surfaced online.<\/p>\n<p>Ramathuba said her issue was not with Zimbabwean patients needing help, but with governments, which she said had caused public hospitals to be overburdened, reported News24. She said:<\/p>\n<p>At the risk of limiting my career, we as leadership \u2013 voted in by citizens \u2013 have not done much to prevent this (the collapse of the public healthcare system). We can do more.<\/p>\n<p>In the first video, Ramathuba is heard telling a Zimbabwean patient at Bela Bela Hospital that immigrants are a strain on Limpopo\u2019s health system and she should go to Mnangagwa, in reference to Zimbabwe\u2019s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.<\/p>\n<p>In the second video, the Limpopo Health MEC said she would be billing Mnangagwa for the patient\u2019s maternity care.<\/p>\n<p>Ramathuba said the immigrants received at Limpopo public hospitals were mostly Zimbabwean.<\/p>\n<p>She, however, said her anger was not directed at Zimbabweans or Mnangagwa personally but that she had mentioned Mnangagwa in the second video as he was the president of Zimbabwe. Said Ramathuba:<\/p>\n<p>The failure of our governments to deal with the border crisis is resulting in the working classes fighting against each other.<\/p>\n<p>We are creating a situation where there is a divide between foreigners and South Africans. We who created this must do something about it.<\/p>\n<p>Ramathuba said the Zimbabwean patient in the first video had already undergone elective surgery, had been discharged, and was waiting for transport when she spoke to her.<\/p>\n<p>She said in Limpopo Province, which borders Zimbabwe, 91% of the 5.7 million people relied on public health.
