Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The government is in the process of establishing industrial training polytechnic colleges in Binga and Plumtree to speed up the country\u2019s development, a cabinet minister has said.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a graduation ceremony at Bulawayo Polytechnic on Thursday, Higher, Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Amon Murwira, said:<\/p>\n

When we do things, we do them for others. That\u2019s why we get educated. Bulawayo Polytechnic is important to us, we are building an industrial training college in Binga and it is this institution that is doing that. We are very proud that we are spreading our wings.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t be beggars every time, it\u2019s not possible. We are also happy that Bulawayo Polytechnic is involved in establishing Plumtree College, which has taken about 30 students. We are going to increase the number of students, we want our people to be capable.<\/p>\n

I have told the principal not to advertise only in the newspapers but to do a door-to-door campaign, telling people to go to school. It\u2019s not everyone is able to read a newspaper or has access to WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

We are also happy that Bulawayo Polytechnic contributed in building a students\u2019 centre at National University of Science and Technology and refurbished the Gwabalanda hostels at Hillside Teacher\u2019s College.<\/p>\n

It is time we redefine what education is, let\u2019s be practical. Why do we need English in order to study physics. It\u2019s time we prioritise ourselves.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be real in terms of what we want for our nation. We are ready to fund the first start-ups for Bulawayo Polytechnic.<\/p>\n

Murwira added that the country should redefine its education and move from theory to practice while making use of indigenous languages. | NewsDay<\/p>\n
