Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nick Mwendwa is back in office in a development that is expected to result in the lifting of sanctions imposed by FIFA.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Mwendwa was suspended after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed ordered investigations into the federation\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n

FIFA responded by banning Kenya from all international football competitions citing government interference in running the game in the East African country.<\/p>\n

The Kenyan government appointed a transition committee to take over the operations at KFK but FIFA disowned the committee.<\/p>\n

Following six months of investigation, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) withdrew charges levelled against the FA boss, allowing him to resume his duties.<\/p>\n

In a letter addressed to FIFA, Mwendwa confirmed that he has resumed his duties at KFK. He wrote:<\/p>\n

Reference is made to my letter dated November 29, 2021, with regard to the interim transfer of my powers and responsibilities as FKF President to the FKF Vice President.<\/p>\n

In this regard, following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022, I hereby wish to inform your good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president, with immediate effect, in accordance with Article 42 of the FKF constitution (2017).<\/p>\n

Once FIFA acknowledges the letter, the sanctions against the Kenyan FA will be lifted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is still banned after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) failed to meet FIFA\u2019s orders to reinstate suspended ZIFA president Felton Kamambo.<\/p>\n

Both Zimbabwe and Kenya were banned from international football at FIFA\u2019s Congress held in March in Qatar.<\/p>\n
