Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Civil service union leaders will hold a meeting on Friday morning to deliberate on the way forward after the government failed to review civil servants\u2019 salaries in September.<\/p>\n

Last month, Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube met with representatives of civil servants under the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) banner to discuss salaries and conditions of service.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Ncube said the government will consider increasing the US dollar component paid to public workers in September.<\/p>\n

However, the government did not increase its workers\u2019 salaries as they were expecting and this may result in job action by the restive civil service.<\/p>\n

In a statement, PTUZ said the government has insulted teachers and the rest of the civil service (ROCS) by failing to improve their conditions of service. PTUZ said:<\/p>\n

Civil service unions meet this morning (Friday) to deliberate on the latest insult from govt.<\/p>\n

The indication by the government that teachers and ROCS don\u2019t matter will likely lead to the collapse of public sector services.<\/p>\n

Govt can\u2019t end the year the same way it started.<\/p>\n

Civil servants are currently getting US$175 in allowances but they are pushing for the restoration of their pre-October 2018 salaries of US$540.<\/p>\n
