Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A Bulawayo-based police officer Tuesday appeared before the magistrate for allegedly interrupting a ZANU PF meeting in the New Magwegwe suburb on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Eriezel Gondo (33) was charged with \u201cdisturbing a public gathering\u201d when he appeared before magistrate Shepherd Mjanja, NewZimbabwe reported.<\/p>\n

The court remanded him out of custody on a ZW$30,000 bail until December 13, 2022.<\/p>\n

His lawyer Nqobani Sithole of Ncube Attorneys complained to the court that Gondo was severely assaulted by the complainants before he was handed over to the police.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Mjanja ordered the State to carry out investigations on the complaints raised by the defence before postponing the case.<\/p>\n

What happened:<\/p>\n

Court papers suggest that Gondo, who was reportedly drunk, interrupted a meeting of ZANU PF\u2019s DCC Area Two which was underway at Mabhodoko Shopping Centre in New Magwegwe last Saturday.<\/p>\n

He reportedly arrived at the meeting and told ZANU PF supporters that they must disperse.<\/p>\n

Moses Charumbira, who is the secretary for security, rebuked him and asked him to leave the venue.<\/p>\n

Gondo reportedly returned half an hour later and told the meeting:<\/p>\n

Ndoda kukunyorerai petition vanhu veZanu PF munozviitisa.<\/p>\n

After uttering the alleged words, Gondo was again chased away, but he returned a few minutes later and uttered the words:<\/p>\n

What are you talking about? The youths are hungry and jobless!<\/p>\n

He then left the meeting venue and went to a nearby bottle store where he further shouted:<\/p>\n

Muri kurega ava veZanu PF vachiita musangano wavo isu tichifa nenzara; handei tose tinovarova! (Why are you allowing these Zanu PF people to hold a meeting while we are struggling with hunger; let\u2019s go and beat them up).<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Charumbira followed Gondo supported by a party colleague and effected a \u201ccitizen\u2019s arrest\u201d on the accused and handed him over to Magwegwe Police Station where a docket was opened.<\/p>\n
