Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A 47-year-old Harare woman who last week claimed to have lost over US$62 000 to three robbers has been arrested for making a false report.<\/p>\n

The woman claimed robbers armed with a pistol raided while she was counting the money in her bedroom at a house in Glen Lorne, Harare at around 1.30 pm and stole the cash.<\/p>\n

A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) report seen by Pindula News on 10 November 2022 read:<\/p>\n

The ZRP is investigating a robbery case where a woman aged 47 was robbed US$62 150 cash on November 9, 2022 at around 1.30pm in Glen Lorne, Harare by three unknown suspects.<\/p>\n

The suspects, who were armed with an unidentified pistol pounced at the complainant\u2019s residence and went to the bedroom where she was counting cash. They threatened her with a firearm before stealing the cash.<\/p>\n

Police then appealed to anyone with information that might assist them with investigations to contact any nearest police station.<\/p>\n

Some members of the public were sceptical while some blamed the alleged robbery on the erosion of the public\u2019s confidence in the banking sector. Said one commentator:<\/p>\n

Effects of having a poor banking sector, people keeping cash in houses instead of the bank.<\/p>\n

Another one said:<\/p>\n

The coincidence though! (When the robbers arrived, they went to the bedroom where SHE WAS COUNTING MONEY)<\/p>\n

GandaRemvura @tinashechirape weighed in:<\/p>\n

Having USD62k at home means they don\u2019t believe in the banks. Deposit that money you will lose 5-8k to get it back.<\/p>\n

Following investigations, Police sources said the woman had since been arrested for making a false report.<\/p>\n

It is alleged that the woman was owing a lot of people money and wanted to get relief or sympathy from these people.<\/p>\n
