Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>A man believed to have been part of the 13-member gang of armed robbery suspects that raided three How Mine vehicles and stole over 11 kgs of gold<\/b> on 04 October this year has since died.<\/p>\n

The suspect succumbed to injuries sustained in the shoot-out with How Mine\u2019s security manager during the heist, reported The Sunday News citing a source close to the investigations.<\/p>\n

The manager, a former CID Homicide officer, reportedly shot two of the suspects with the now deceased hit on the spine.<\/p>\n

The suspect reportedly died a week later in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Police arrested three of the 13 and later connected some of them to four similar forays that occurred in the city.<\/p>\n

The gang was fingered in heists at two financial institutions, a fruit and vegetable wholesale and a grocery shop between May and October.<\/p>\n

In total, the gang reportedly got away with US$858 000 and R508 000 in five raids within four months.<\/p>\n

In the How Mine saga, sources said there was a gunfight involving security officers from a cash-in-transit truck and the suspects whose vehicles were left riddled with bullet holes.<\/p>\n

The armed robbers were using three vehicles, a Toyota GD 6, a Nissan March and Nissan Hard boy single cab.<\/p>\n

It is alleged, How Mine\u2019s internal security manager was following the three cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicles using a Toyota Fortuner from a distance when the ambush took place.<\/p>\n

The security manager then pursued the three armed robbers\u2019 vehicles.<\/p>\n

A shootout ensued and he managed to shoot the Nissan Hardbody which the suspects then dumped while firing at him.<\/p>\n

The manager then pursued the other two vehicles (Toyota GD6 and Nissan March) until Ekusileni Hospital (Hillside) towards the Bulawayo city centre, where the armed robbers managed to escape.<\/p>\n
