{"id":72143,"date":"2023-01-07T18:24:25","date_gmt":"2023-01-07T16:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/bulawayo-has-been-turned-into-a-growth-point-obert-mpofu"},"modified":"2023-01-07T21:23:35","modified_gmt":"2023-01-07T19:23:35","slug":"bulawayo-has-been-turned-into-a-growth-point-obert-mpofu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/bulawayo-has-been-turned-into-a-growth-point-obert-mpofu","title":{"rendered":"\u201cBulawayo Has Been Turned Into A Growth Point\u201d \u2013 Obert Mpofu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Mines, <b>Obert Mpofu<\/b> has said Bulawayo, Zimbabwe\u2019s second-largest city, has been turned into a growth point by sitting councillors who are predominantly from the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>His remarks did not sit well with Bulawayo mayor <b>Solomon Mguni<\/b> who accused the ZANU PF government of contributing to the collapse of the former industrial hub of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking while presiding over a full council meeting Wednesday, Mguni said:<\/p>\n<p>We are meeting today when the city is under immense pressure, assault and insults from our political detractors,\u201d Mguni said in his first full council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>They have taken every opportunity to twist facts and doctored them to their political advantage.<\/p>\n<p>One senior Matabeleland North provincial member is being quoted in the state media describing Bulawayo as having turned into a growth point.<\/p>\n<p>This house must agree with this senior politician that the collapse of the city`s road network in 2021-2022 is attributed to the failure of the central government`s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).<\/p>\n<p>As the adage goes, statistics don\u2019t lie. 2021-22 saw the erratic or non-disbursement of allocated ZINARA funds, some which were diverted towards the government`s ERRP.<\/p>\n<p>This saw 18 Bulawayo roads taken over by the Department of State Roads, CMED and various associated contractors under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 18 roads, only three of them were completed while twelve of the said roads are at zero per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Mguni urged councillors to speak with one voice in urging the central government to disband the ERRP \u201cwhich has had a deleterious effect on the city maintenance road efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
