Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Stephen Mudawarima<\/b>, a seasoned sports administrator, has stepped down as chief executive officer and secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC)<\/b> after a two-year stint at the national Olympic body.<\/p>\n

ZOC president Thabani Gonye confirmed the development in a statement to stakeholders on Wednesday. Read the statement:<\/p>\n

This letter serves to advise all the members, stakeholders and partners of ZOC on the departure of Stephen Mudawarima from his role of ZOC chief executive secretary-general, effective Monday February 6, 2023.<\/p>\n

We wish Mr Mudawarima all the best in his endeavours as he takes this step into the next stage of his life.<\/p>\n

Mudawarima first joined the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee in 2017 after being elected as a non-executive board member.<\/p>\n

He later became CEO in January 2021, taking over from Anna Mguni, who resigned in December 2020 after a nine-year reign.<\/p>\n

ZOC\u2019s head of finance Memory Pakati<\/b> has since been appointed acting CEO until the appointment of a substantive successor.<\/p>\n

The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee is the National Olympic Committee representing Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

ZOC was created in 1934 and recognised by the IOC in 1980. The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) is an umbrella sports organisation whose main objective is to develop and protect the Olympic Movement in Zimbabwe in accordance with the Olympic Charter.<\/p>\n
