Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>President Emmerson Mnangagwa<\/b> has said his administration was reviving the nation\u2019s economy to the extent that there will be no need for Zimbabweans to go to Egoli, South Africa in search of employment.<\/p>\n

He made the remarks during the National Youth Day<\/b> commemorations held yesterday at the Lupane State University<\/b> under the theme Drug and substance abuse a threat to vision 2030; every community\u2019s responsibility. NewsDay quotes him as saying:<\/p>\n

There will be no need for our people to go to Egoli in search of employment, come home, the country is growing.<\/p>\n

South Africa is the main destination for many Zimbabweans and other African nationals seeking a better life.<\/p>\n

Mnangagwa\u2019s remarks came as South Africa has announced that it would not further extend the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (Zeps)<\/b> for Zimbabweans in that country beyond June 30, 2023.<\/p>\n

The ZEPs were first introduced in 2010 under the Dispensation of Zimbabweans Project as a temporary response by the South African government to the large numbers of Zimbabweans flocking to the country since 2008.<\/p>\n

The permits were initially due to expire on December 31, 2022, but were later extended to the end of June this year.<\/p>\n

As early as October, the Zimbabwean government announced that it was prepared to receive its nationals returning from South Africa by offering them transport and other logistics.<\/p>\n

Turning to the issue of drugs, Mnangagwa revealed that the government was reviewing laws on drug abuse as he expressed concern over widespread illegal substance abuse in the country.<\/p>\n
