Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Harare mayor Jacob Mafume said that the City of Harare intends to repossess all bus termini it was leasing to the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) due to a lack of maintenance.<\/p>\n

Mafume told NewsDay that the local authority will repossess the bus terminuses but allow Zimbabwe United Passenger Company to continue using them. He said:<\/p>\n

We had surrendered control of our termini to ZUPCO but we are going to repossess them so that there is order.<\/p>\n

We are going to allow the use of the termini by Zimbabwe United Passenger Company but they will now be in our hands.<\/p>\n

We are going to take over the terminuses around the city where we are going to put municipal police who are going to man the areas and monitor the situation and people who will be seen dumping litter at the rank would be arrested.<\/p>\n

We want our bus termini to be user-friendly and safe for the operators because as we speak, some of them no longer have shelter…<\/p>\n

Some of the council bus termini are at Copacabana, Market Square, Fourth Street, and Charge Office.<\/p>\n

However, ZUPCO chief executive officer Tineyi Rwasoka told NewsDay that Harare City Council was yet to notify them about the plans to repossess bus termini.<\/p>\n

Harare City Council and ZUPCO both fall under one ministry \u2014 the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.<\/p>\n
