{"id":74927,"date":"2023-03-05T16:33:39","date_gmt":"2023-03-05T14:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/6-zimbabweans-batswana-arrested-in-uk"},"modified":"2023-03-05T16:33:39","modified_gmt":"2023-03-05T14:33:39","slug":"6-zimbabweans-batswana-arrested-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/6-zimbabweans-batswana-arrested-in-uk","title":{"rendered":"6 Zimbabweans, Batswana Arrested In UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Six men and women, identified as Zimbabweans and Batswana, have been arrested in the United Kingdom (UK) on suspicion of immigration offences.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement seen by Pindula News, the UK government said a total of six Zimbabweans and Batswana were arrested during <b>Operation Brycem<\/b>, a Home Office\u2019s investigation into illegal working in the care sector.<\/p>\n<p>Home Office Immigration Enforcement teams executed six warrants at properties on Alma Road, Southampton in a pre-dawn visit last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>None of the suspects had permission to work in the UK while four of those arrested are believed to be working within the care industry.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects, aged between 30 and 55, were questioned. Three suspects have since been detained pending deportation from the UK, while one agreed to leave the UK under the Voluntary Return Service (VRS).<\/p>\n<p>One person was detained by Immigration Enforcement for document offences. Another person was detained but later released on immigration bail.<\/p>\n<p>South Central Immigration Enforcement Assistant Director, Matt Wilkinson said:<\/p>\n<p>These arrests have prevented those without employment rights in the UK from working with vulnerable people, and ensured that people abusing our immigration laws are brought to justice.<\/p>\n<p>The success of this operation shows that we will stop at nothing to protect the vulnerable within our communities and take firm action against those who are profiting from exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>All employers in the UK have a responsibility to prevent illegal working. Employers can be jailed for five years and pay an unlimited fine if they are found guilty of employing someone they knew or had \u2018reasonable cause to believe\u2019 did not have the right to work in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Medical professionals can apply for a Health and Care Worker visa to allow them to work in the UK legally with the NHS, an NHS supplier or in adult social care.<\/p>\n<p>Our Nationality and Borders Act will ensure the system is fair to those in genuine need and firm on those who seek to abuse it.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of Zimbabweans have left for the UK to work in various sectors, including healthcare, hospitality and tourism, retail, construction, information technology, and finance.
