{"id":7504,"date":"2019-04-16T13:35:58","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=7504"},"modified":"2019-04-16T13:35:58","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:35:58","slug":"50-of-gweru-council-managers-unqualified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/50-of-gweru-council-managers-unqualified","title":{"rendered":"50% of Gweru council managers unqualified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AT least 47% of top and middle managers at Gweru City Council are not qualified for their positions, a service level benchmarking (SLB) peer review committee report revealed last Friday.<span id=\"more-3096224744019109\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe noted that 47,9% of those occupying top and middle management positions are not qualified for those posts,\u201d Mutare city engineer and member of the review committee team, Maxwell Karenyi said while presenting the findings of the review.<\/p>\n<p>He said the municipality should adopt sound corporate governance policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly 52,1% of employees are qualified for their positions. Our recommendation as the review team is that the council should expedite adoption of draft key corporate policies. The number of under-qualified staff is worrying because we expect that everyone should be qualified for the posts they are holding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Karenyi also said council\u2019s accounts were last audited four years ago, a situation that compromised good corporate governance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we noted is that there is a serious backlog of audit in Gweru City Council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe council is still working on their 2016 audit books and that should be corrected as well.
